Help is on the Way
written by Richard Thomas. Letter to the Editor, The Albany Herald.
It has recently come to my attention that a city official (tax board member) and appointed attorney have purportedly been involved in the intimidation and bullying of our tax paying citizens, one requesting a "rubber stamp" to ease his burden of manually rejecting or denying the tax appeals of innocent citizens, and the other defying constitutional law by implying to the taxpayers they may only have "5 days" in which to assemble their appeals or choices for arbitration in these same tax matters. (Tax officials despise arbitrations, as it is costly, time consuming, and requires a fair and balanced 3rd party intervention.)
Part of the mission statement of our local tax payers association is to remind these arrogant bureaucrats that their economic subsistence is derived from the hard earned tax dollars we all pay into this (broken) system, and we have become tired, if not angry, over the years watching appointed and elected officials squander our tax dollars like over-fed pigs feeding at an endless trough! (Throw another $1 million into the Radium Springs pit!)
I encourage every disgruntled tax paying citizen of Dougherty County to leave this flock of sheep (as we might be referred to by bureaucrats), stand up for your constitutional rights, appeal unfair taxes — even to the extent of arbitration, and send these city and county officials a message that we have had enough of poor leadership, abject government and services, and squanderous fiscal policy. If we don't, we have nothing to look forward to but MORE OF THE SAME!
The highest millage rate in the state (of comparable cities) and inflated tax values are merely a symptom of a much deeper, more serious disease affecting our city and county — incompetence.
Space does not allow me to list the numerous projects, oversights, and yes, even theft that has cost our tax payers millions of unnecessary and wasted tax dollars. We can make a difference, as so many people have already committed themselves to join us in taking our city and county back and begin cleaning up the pig sty.
Yes, there is something "fishy" in Albany, and you can bet it is not the Riverquarium!
Help is on the way!
